Moments after taking home the “Song of the Year” at the CMAs for her single “Follow Your Arrow,” breakout country artist Kacey Musgraves took to the stage to perform a country classic – Loretta Lynn’s 1971 single “You’re Looking at Country.” As a new face of country, the tune was certainly fitting –
but Lynn herself surprised the crowd when she came out from behind the stage to finish the back half of the song. She was a bit rusty at first, but quickly found her footing with Musgraves helping her along. Aside from Meghan Trainor and Miranda Lambert’s “All About That Bass” duet, the performances had been pretty straightforward. This certainly was a bright spot in the first hour.
At the 2013 CMA Awards, Musgraves took home New Artist of the Year and was nominated for a total of six. Tonight, she garnered three total nominations, including Female Vocalist of the Year.
